3/15-16/25 …But Really, Let’s Focus On Recovery!

What better way to recover than in a bit of luxury?! The Westin did not disappoint. The marble everywhere and sheer volume of employees ready to check in and assist in every possible way was almost overwhelming at first. This is definitely not the way either of us usually travel, but when points make it feel free, and you’re on a lake next to a National Park, how can you pass it up?

I think this little splurge was both welcome and necessary. Despite our disappointment that there were not actually trails and we were not supposed to go into the national park, the large pool area provided ample space to relax and unwind outside. Though we had walked several kilometers a day before the surgery, we have not had any space to just be outside. Not to mention the 2.5 days of complete captivity inside the hospital!

We saw blue in the sky for the first time and water buffalo wearing Egret hats in the lake surrounding the hotel. I did yoga in the grass and Christ walked around barefoot. We let the sun warm our bodies and cooled off in the perfectly contrasting water. The combination of dancing to my heart’s content, immersion in water, and grounding through nature reinvigorated me and rejuvenated my entire soul. I could see the energy fields around Christ growing with each night of sleep and each hour of fresh air.

When Ayush came by on Sunday, we decided to escape the bougie hotel for a little real life on the streets. We slipped out the back gate despite the confused and worried looks from the hotel staff. They seemed accustomed to their guests never leaving the hotel grounds, but neither of us have ever subscribed to norms, or rules for that matter.

We soaked in the comfy bed, fresh and diverse food, and freedom of space at every turn. Goldilocks, I mean Christ, had the audacity to say the beds were too soft the first night. To be fair, we had we had slept on the full spectrum of surfaces (aside from straight concrete, no cardboard as they do on the streets here) in the past 4 days. The abysmal hospital bed was so uncomfortable it likely delayed healing. Our standard hotel room was your typical motel bed at best. The Moxy was very comfortable but didn’t fully embrace us, but that Westin bed was heavenly with large, plump pillows to match. By the second night, Christ had adjusted and slept more soundly than possibly any night thus far on the trip. With two more full days of recovery, we took our $10, hour-long Uber back to The Sahil Hotel in Mumbai Central.
